In June of 2003, Tim Barsky had an idea of putting together a beatbox showcase in San Francisco and calling it "Vowel Movement". Because he didn't know many beatboxers at the time, he linked up with his good friend & fellow beatboxer, Bryan Neuberg a.k.a. Process to assist with the scouting of performers for the first show. By these two gentlemen working together on this exciting new concept, they were planting the seed for a movement which would soon take place and influence beatboxers & musicians from around the world. With a great turn out and such a strong sense of community between the beatboxers, the first show was a success and turned into a monthly event...the rest is history.

The first show took place at the Exit Theatre Cafe on Eddy Street, and consisted of Tim Barsky, Bryan Neuberg, Kid Beyond, Eachbox, Vocal Wax, The Schmaltzen Drops, I.O., One Mouth Band, and Paul Rodriguez.

Now, having been running almost three years, The Vowel Movement has now become more than just a monthly beatbox event — it has helped establish & boost beatboxers' careers, created many friendships, and most important of all, it's created a supportive community. We are all about bringing new faces on board and letting those who wanna be heard, get heard. Our show has been featured on television, been promoted through the radio, and has gotten a great amount of press coverage.

In the summer of '05, The Vowel Movement put together its first ever Beatbox Gym, which included workshops, jam sessions, one-on-one lessons, and a great cook out. From mastering breath control, to live looping, this fun Saturday afternoon had it all. Don't worry if you missed out, we're working on our next one.

If you're a beatboxer that's microphone hungry or just someone who would like to get involved with the community, please email us.
